Probably you’ll be surprised to know that not long ago I was one of the opponents of cars; and not only because they spoil the environment and deprive thousands of people of lives every year, but also because they change the situation in family and relations between dear people. I have enough examples among my friends to come to such a conclusion.
And a conversation that I accidentally heard several months ago proves it. A wife of my acquaintance who is the best friend of my wife came to visit her, and I occasionally heard their talk. She said: “Oh, Jane! If you could only see expression of Peter’s eyes when he bought a car! I haven’t seen this expression since our wedding”. She said that Peter looked like a little child at that moment: he was so happy that it seemed to her that in a second he would clap his hands and laugh light-heartedly. And finally she made a conclusion: “So after George buys a car don’t be surprised if he says that he doesn’t have money to go to your favourite restaurant when it’s your birthday but at the same time he will buy different parts for his car like spark plugs or he will shop wheel tools or he will spend all his savings on car tuning“.
I had pretty the same opinion: cars change people and their lives, because they took a lot of time and money. I didn’t want to change something and I didn’t want my wife to suffer, that’s why I was against buying a car. I didn’t want to spend all weekends in a garage with car instead of my spending this time with my family, I didn’t want to spend my salary on discounted brake pads and other parts for car, I didn’t want to spend days desperately trying to find a brand new wheels sale, etc.
But nearly a week ago I found my wife reading cycle hot news. It was her idea to buy motorbikes for us. We have discussed it and came to conclusion that it’s the best solution to the problem. And in several days we are going to buy our motorbikes. I’m looking forward for this happy moment!
