Even a layman can understand that in the ordinary or even in the specially suited room it is very difficult to meet all the conditions for ideal layout of home theatre system. One reason is that usually there is more than one spectator in home theatre. More rarely it is possible to make considerable moving off of rear surround and places for spectators. Fortunately there are a lot of variations, for example you can use Wireless home theater systems. Or you can set up your system with some concessions. You can try to find following compromises:
- three (two frontal and one central) surrounds of acoustic system can be placed not along circle but in one line. Meanwhile the frontal ones should form an equilateral triangle with audience place.
- rear surrounds may be placed in less distance from the audience than the frontal ones but it is very important to provide the distance of 1,5 metres from each rear surrounds to spectator.
If the room is not too big it is more preferable to choose diametrical scheme of acoustic system set up: the screen is in the centre of the long wall, on the both sides of it there are frontal surrounds and the audience is at the front long wall.
What concerns a sub woofer, you should install it after all system connection and tuning. Place your sub in different places of the room, turn on same recording with good bass and listen while standing in the area of audience places. When the bass is the most legible and not buzzing, know that you have found the most optimal dislocation for your sub woofer. The other method is called “by contradiction”. The sub is placed in the area of audience seats and installer begins moving on all fours along the walls of the room. When you find the area in which all sounds are heard distinctly and clearly, know that you have found the right place.
